2025   CONFERENCE  -  FREQUENTLY  ASKED  QUESTIONS

To our Social Justice Community,
The CSJ Board would like to offer an apology for the harms done to our community by scheduling the upcoming CSJ conference to coincide with the beginning of Passover. We understand that colleagues may have felt excluded or have chosen not to attend, and we regret the hurt this may have caused. It is important that we acknowledge our mistakes, and this was a big one. We are sorry to all affected.

BEFORE THE CONFERENCE

How do I book my hotel room?
CSJ has negotiated discounted rates for rooms at the conference hotel - the Sheraton San Juan. Click here to reserve a room using this discount. Note that rooms are limited under this discount, though the Sheraton may have availability at their standard rates, and there are also other lodging options nearby.
What ground transportation options are available?
Please go to the Whova app and access the Resources menu, then choose Logistics. There is a page on Transportation & Accessibility.
Don't have the Whova app yet?

How do I stay connected with all of the conference activities?
There's an app for that! The entire CSJ conference will be running through our conference manager system called Whova.
  • download  iOS Whova App
  • download Android Whova App

Most of the conference information and networking features are also available through the CSJ Whova conference website using  your browser.
I NEED TO CANCEL MY CONFERENCE REGISTRATION. IS A REFUND AVAILABLE?
We are of course disappointed that you won't be able to attend. Cancellation requests received up to 30 days before the conference qualify for a 50% refund. Cancellation requests received within 30 days of the conference are non-refundable as we have had to make contractual commitments to the venue on attendance numbers. We do still need to know you're not attending so we can remove you from the registration roster. Please email [email protected] to let us know.

FOR PRESENTERS

WILL THERE BE A PROJECTOR FOR MY SESSION? WILL THERE BE I.T. SUPPORT ON SITE?
Yes the session rooms will have projectors and screens. Speakers will need to bring their laptops including any special connections you might need to connect to a standard monitor/projector. We will have volunteers with some technical abilities available too, however we're asking speakers to bring what they need to connect their own devices. We'll have time the day before to test your setup.

DURING THE CONFERENCE

WHAT ARE THE EXPECTATIONS ABOUT MASKS?
Masks are not required, however please respect others' preferences and usage of masks. We acknowledge that individuals may have different needs and preferences based on their health status, personal experiences, and comfort levels. From a disability justice perspective, it is crucial to prioritize the safety, accessibility, and well-being of all individuals, including those with chronic illness or compromised immune systems. Masks will be available at the registration desk upon request.
HOW DO I REQUEST ACCOMMODATIONS?
The Conference Committee has assembled a whole team dedicated to supporting our attendees with any special needs or assistance. We are calling this our ADA Team.
If you require accommodations, here are the options available:
  • You can communicate your needs and requested accommodations in advance to [email protected] - please email us no later than Wed. 4/9 with your request
  • You can inquire when you check in at the registration table - we will have a member of the ADA Team available at registration
  • Members of the ADA Team will also be floating between session rooms throughout the day to check in on attendees and make sure that everyone is supported
WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE?
We don't want to dictate what you wear! But for those feeling anxious without some direction, we'll suggest Business Casual Comfortable. Hotel conference rooms can be air-conditioned and chilly, so those prone to being cold may want to bring a light wrap. Be sure to check the weather in Puerto Rico so you can pack the 'fits you might need!
ARE KOSHER MEALS AVAILABLE?
Kosher meals can be arranged with advance notice. Please contact us by April 1 at [email protected] if you need CSJ support on this during your conference.
How many CEs can I earn at the conference?
Sessions are 1 hour or 90 minutes, as listed in the conference agenda, which means that you will earn 1 clock hour or 1.5 clock hours accordingly. Most of the sessions qualify for CEs. Those that do not are marked in the session description. You'll need to be present for the entirety of a session in order to qualify for CEs for that session, based on our check-in and check-out protocols.
WHICH SESSIONS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR CEs?
Most sessions will award CEs upon full attendance and completion of the course evaluation. The sessions which are not CE-eligible include the Opening Keynote, all panels and roundtables, and all social events such as the luncheon and mixers. In addition, a few speaker sessions may not be CE-eligible based on NBCC requirements.  These are marked in the conference agenda accordingly.
How will I get my CE certificates?
CE Certificates are issued for sessions that you have attended for the full duration, and completed a course evaluation for. At the end of each session, you'll be able to access this course evaluation before you leave the session room:
  1. A QR code will be projected on the screen at the front of the room
  2. Turn your phone camera on and point your phone at QR code on the screen
  3. A prompt will appear on your phone asking you to open a web page containing the course evaluation for that session
  4. Fill out the course evaluation. We encourage you to do it right then, before leaving the room
  5. Your CE certificate will be generated immediately after you submit the course evaluation and sent to you at the email you provide in the form
Please bring your phone or a tablet device to each session so that you can take advantage of this straightforward way to get your CE certificate immediately.

AFTER THE CONFERENCE

Not able to attend in person? No worries, we got you! CSJ will be hosting a series of webinars featuring our conference presenters in the months following the conference. Be on the lookout for announcements from our Professional Development Committee!

CSJ ADVOCACY COMMITTEE  SERVICE PROJECT

The CSJ Advocacy Committee is currently planning their Service Project to benefit the local community, which will be held the day before the conference, on Thursday, April 10th. The project is a Beach Cleanup, from 11am – 2pm. Meet at Pinones Beach Main Entrance, Loiza. Supplies including trash bags, buckets, and gloves are provided. We ask volunteers to bring their own reusable garden gloves, and also to pay for your ride to the beach or donate towards a rideshare. Please check the Whova conference app or log onto the Whova conference pages for more details!
