CSJ Activities in Atlanta

Dear CSJ Colleagues,

We have some exciting events planned at the ACA Conference that we hope you will join us for. In particular, we hope our members will come out to celebrate one another and connect at our Awards Event (Friday, April 27th at 10:30am). We also hope you will join us at the CSJ Town Hall (Friday, April 27th at 1pm) where we will share updates on CSJ and hear feedback and ideas from all of you. See more details about these and other events below.

Here are the scheduled CSJ events so far:
  • CSJ Day of Service, Wednesday, April 25th
  • CSJ Awards Event on Friday, April 27 from 10:30am-12:30pm
  • CSJ Town Hall Meeting on Friday, April 27 from 1:00pm-2:30pm

Additionally, there will be three CSJ-sponsored sessions at the conference:
  • Examining African American Women Graduate Students’ Affinity Group Experiences
  • Undocumented Immigrants: Challenges, Strengths, and Social Justice
  • Decentralizing Whiteness and Other Forms of Privilege: Lessons from Standing Rock

CSJ Day of Service in Atlanta

Are you a CSJ member and plan to be in Atlanta?

You are invited to volunteer with Counselors for Social Justice for the 2018 Service Day.

The 2018 Service Day will be a collaboration between CSJ, AMCD, ASERVIC, and ALGBTIC and will take place on Wednesday April 25, 2018 in Atlanta, GA.

It will include working with community agencies that provide services to immigrant communities, college students, and mothers in the criminal justice system. Teams of professionals and students will complete a 4-8 hour service day project at a community partner site in Atlanta.

Social Media Coordinator Needed (JSACP)

The Journal for Social Action in Counseling and Psychology (JSACP; http://jsacp.tumblr.com) is seeking a Social Media Coordinator. The social media coordinator will be responsible for managing all social media content (e.g., Facebook, twitter, instagram, etc.).

Responsibilities
  • Manage JSACP’s Facebook (@Journal for Social Action in Counseling and Psychology) and Twitter (@JSACP)
  • Find relevant articles in academic sources, reliable media sources, etc. related to social justice-locally, nationally, and internationally and posting them.
  • At least 3 posts a week on Facebook page.
  • At least 3-6 tweets per day on twitter.
  • Form relationships within the social media community to engage other professionals working in organizations that are engaged in social justice work.
  • Engage with relevant FB accounts (i.e., friending, commenting on material, sharing material on and from JSACP page) of:
    • Academic departments
    • Other scholarly journals
    • Community Based Organizations
    • Non-profits / Non-governmental organizations
    • People involved in social justice work with large online followers
  • Engage with relevant Twitter accounts (i.e., following, retweeting, tweeting at, exchanging a heart for a heart) of:
    • Academic departments
    • Other scholarly journals
    • Community Based Organizations
    • Non-profits / Non-governmental organizations
    • People involved in social justice work with large social media presence

Monthly Deliverables

  • 40 New Facebook followers
  • 40 new twitter followers
  • Identify 12 new organizations/people/journals to follow on twitter
  • Identify 12 new organizations/people/journals to like on Facebook
  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Expertise in social media including strategies to increase postings and traffic on social media outlets.
  • Enjoy involvement with social media activities (e.g., engaging with social media accounts multiple times a day).
  • Self driven and motivated.
  • Creative and enjoy taking on new responsibilities.
  • Have an understanding of and passion for social justice and action.

Quality articles, critiques, or reviews should align with our mission: The mission of Counselors for Social Justice is to work to promote social justice in our society through confronting oppressive systems of power and privilege that affect professional counselors and our clients and to assist in the positive change in our society through the professional development of counselors. AMCD Joint Service Day: Call for Volunteers
ACA 2018 in Atlanta, GA

AMCD, CSJ, ASERVIC, and ALGBTIC are excited to announce the 2018 Joint Service Day at the American Counseling Association (ACA) national conference in Atlanta, GA. Division Presidents have asked that we partner counseling professionals/leaders with emerging professionals/graduate students to use their skills in counseling outreach efforts with the diverse and multicultural community of Atlanta. In this spirit, AMCD, CSJ, ASERVIC, and ALGBTC are hoping to recruit 20-30 volunteers, both professionals and students, to participate in community service during the 2018 ACA Conference in Atlanta.

The 2015 Service Day will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2018. Teams of professionals and students will complete a 4-8 hour service day project at the site of a community partner in Atlanta. Volunteers will be assigned to committees and will receive training and assist in planning the Service Day prior to April 25. Volunteers should arrive in Atlanta prior to the April 25 Service Day.

If you are interested in volunteering please send your name, contact information (email address and phone number), and a statement of your interest in serving as a volunteer along with your resume/vitae to Mrs. Kristy Christopher-Holloway (kholloway@stu.argosy.edu) by Thursday, March 1, 2018. If you know of someone that may be interested in this opportunity, please share this call for volunteers with her/him.

Last year’s AMCD & CSJ Service Day Projects were held in San Francisco, CA. The one-day project included:
  • Serving at Glide Memorial in San Francisco, California.

This year’s Service Day Projects will include working with community agencies that provide services to immigrants, college students, and mothers in the criminal justice system.
